Statistics on earnings data for degree holders

Merits and information on bachelor degree programs. After reading through just a little bit of US Census Data on Bachelor degree holders, it is not hard to see why more and more people are going to college to earn their degree: it pays them back many times over, through the course of their lives.

Just a few fun facts from the report, even though it is nearly a decade old, the trends continue into the current economy, and will doubtless continue on into the years to come. These number represent the mean annual income for people over the age of 18 with the following educational levels:

  • Professional - Eg, people with J.D's and M.D's = $74,560
  • Doctorate - Ph.D. level degree = $54,904
  • Master's (either MBA, MA, MS, or other type of master degree) = $40,368
  • Bachelor's (either BA or BS, or other type of bachelor degree) = $32,629
  • Associate (aa, or other associate degree) = $24,398
  • Some college, no degree = $19,666
  • High school graduate only = $18,737
  • Not a high school graduate = $12,809

As you can see from the chart, a Bachelor degree really pays off, especially in comparison with an associate degree or other, non four year degree. A bachelor degree is also a prerequisite for a master degree. Related information includes our income by degrees article.

So the answer to the age old question, is it worth it to stay in school? Yes!
